The way I became an engineer started something like this:
My interests for tech kicked off back in the middle of the elementary school years, so diving into a engineering career wasn't exactly a tough call.
Even as a pupil I rocked with a screwdriver. Seeking broken electronic devices was my longtime hobby. I always scored something that was still usable: electric motor, capacitor, speaker, digital display, LED light, etc.
Sure, most of the elements ended up trashed, but it helped me to become familiar with the basic components of every electronic device. All this came in handy later.
When the physics teacher rambled about the electrical circuits, it all sounded like nothing new to me.
Back in the mid-90s, the first PCs made their way into households. When we bought one ourselves, I shifted interest to computer science. In the school library, I borrowed the book The Way Computers and MS-DOS Works (by Simon Collin) where I picked up all about the operating system commands.
Exploring the tech scene became my thing, but it didn't last too long 'cause my parents had to call in a local tech whiz to load the system back. I didn't start out handling the PC well, but that's what got me curious about how it all ticks.
My early mentors were the magazines of the era: Joker, Software Power, My Micro, Monitor. Some of them had a CD or DVD attached - awesome way to get apps as there were no internet.
It was September 1st, 2004 when I started my journey as a high schooler at the School Center in Novo mesto. I went to High School of Electronics and Technical Gymnasium to become an electrical and computer technician.
There, I got to know about writing program code in Pascal and C++ for the first time. While most of my classmates struggled with this skill, I saw it as a challenge. By helping them with learning and doing seminar works I also learned a lot myself.
Seems like my explanations did the trick 'cause I ended up getting praise for assisting my classmates at the end of the school year.
The high school years just flew away and I kept them in a good memory. I said goodbye to the desks by passed final exam in scope of which I developed and presented a computer game Black Jack.
With a keen interest in engineering I enrolled at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana. I became a freshman in 2008 and graduated 5 years later. I wrapped up my student days with the defense of Bachelor thesis Cloud Application Development and Deployment.
I started racking up experience during my studies - first as an IT admin at the Veterinary Administration of Slovenia, and then as a programmer at Gooya company. Furthermore, I was hustling on my own projects throughout the years.
My first full-time job was at Dominatus, a company that primarily provides SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) as well as Google Ads and Facebook advertising. Although our collaboration wrapped up after about 4 years it was a good stepping-stone for the future.
I continued my career as engineer and consultant for CSV (Computerized System Validation) in the field of the pharmaceutical industry.
Back in 2020, I became (and I still am) part of an engineering team composed of computer engineers, IT specialists, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other technical disciplines. Together, we tackle technological challenges and thus push the boundaries of what is possible.
